Scaling the Grid

By 2024, the stakes in Dhaka grew exponentially. It was no longer just about managing individual feeders down the line; i was now holding the keys to the critical heart of the city’s power grid. Stepping up to oversee the substations for DPDC meant stepping into a world where a single mistake could plunge entire industrial zones or hundreds of thousands of homes into total darkness.

The sheer scale of the infrastructure under my watch was staggering. I was responsible for two traditional Air Insulated Substations (AIS), seven cutting-edge, compact Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), and a massive 132/33 kV grid substation—the high-voltage gateway converting massive transmission power down into usable energy for the city.

Inside these stations, high-voltage engineering meets split-second decision-making. When a fault tripped a breaker, the countdown began immediately. Leading my technical crew, i became the chief diagnostician. I tracked down insulation failures, isolated surges, and rectified complex electrical faults under intense pressure, transforming chaotic emergencies into controlled, systematic restorations to keep system downtime to an absolute minimum.

Yet, my biggest victories happened when nothing happened at all. By taking charge of the annual predictive and preventive maintenance programs, i used advanced diagnostics to read the subtle warning signs of the grid. Testing transformer oil, checking gas pressures in the GIS bays, and analyzing thermal imaging, i caught catastrophic failures while they were still minor anomalies. By bridging heavy industrial engineering with precision upkeep, i kept the lifeblood of Dhaka flowing smoothly.
